On February 14, the Dallas Mavericks and the Washington Wizards finalized a trade that sent Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson to Dallas and Josh Howard, Drew Gooden, and eventually, Quinton Ross and James Singleton to Washington. Dallas’ goal in this trade was to vamp up their offense and create a spark to make up for the injury to center Erick Dampier. Washington was looking to rebuild their team through this and other coinciding trades.
